Smells Like Teen Spirit: Thank God It’s Sabado!

Meet Migs, Joaqs, JM, Kiko, Peachy, Cris, Michelle, and Raine. They used to be my Saturday barkada during my teenage years. Thank God It’s Sabado (TGIS) is a defunct teen-oriented TV show by GMA Network. It had three versions.
The original cast with Angelu de Leon, Raven Villanueva, Michael Flores, Bobby Andrews, Red Sternberg, Onemig Bondoc, Rica Peralejo, and Ciara Sotto.
The show began in 1996 and lasted until (this is an estimate) 1999 . It was about a group of high school friends trying to get past through hormones, sibling rivalry, school, and first love. They all survive high school by being there for each other.
The interesting part for a fourth grader (which I was back then), were the brewing love stories in between. I believed in Peachy and Joaqs! I believed in their love team so much that I would refuse to leave the house during Saturdays just to watch their interviews with Lyn Ching in the magazine show, Etching until TGIS goes on the air. Peachy and Joaqs even had this *ick* really cheesy loveydovey names for each other. Guess what they were….PANCAKES AND…OMG! I don’t remember the other pet name. Help me! This will not make me sleep.

pancakes for peachy and cookie for joaqs. that’s it. i liked the show its very entertaining but i like GIMIK more from another station.

Oh myyyy!! i was able to watch this series too!! I loved it! hehe! I was soo young then! Peachy and Joaqs! and the others! At least people still remember this!

its so good to go back to the 90s.. my childhood days hahaha!.. i really love the story of matilda.. i remember i even had teray eyes when i watched that movie coz i somehow can relate to Matilda.. hahaha! i even wished i had powers like her… and even tried to tip over a glass once by staring at it! hahahaha! crazy!!!!!:)
oh yeah i also loved ghostwriter… and lamb chops…haha i learned a lot of funny things from that show.. and yeah i memorize the song as well hahahaha…
great job guys! thanks for reminding me of my good ol childhood days: keep it up:)

Boy, this site is indeed nostalgic! It bings back my childhood days, haha!Like hockeygirl, also used to like Kiko (Red Sternberg) back then. TGIS remained to be a part of my saturday afternoon routine, can’t leave the house without watching it first, LOL ^.^
I think this blogsite is way,way better than Blogspot which constantly has glitches, good pick

big hit ang loveteam nila bobby and angelu, kaya big hit din ang mga movies nila. is there anyone here na nakanood ng homeboy yesterday? (feb.1 episode). sila ang mga guest (together with jeff santos-anna roces and eric santos-rachel ann go). bobby and angelu are still nakakakilig.. nag reminisce sila nung TGIS days nila

I used to forego all my Saturday malling dates with my friends because of this show. Shucks di ko napanood Homeboy, may pasok kasi kami eh! Sayang. What happened?

Ung title ng episode na yun ay “Ano kaya kung tayo ang nagkatuluyan?” Sa kalagitnaan ng show, may baby na pinakita, kunwari anak nila un tapos kinopya ung eyes and lips ni Angelu para maging kamukha nya ung baby (inayos lang un sa computer syempre) tapos nung nakita nila un, tawa sila ng tawa dahil nga kamukha na ni Angelu. Then ke Bobby naman, kinopya ung eyes din at lips tsaka ung bigote! Nakakatawa dahil ang itsura ng baby kamukha talaga ni Bobby, pati bigote!
tapos kumanta sila ng “It might be you” fave daw kasi ni Angelu. Ung pinapakita sa screen ng videoke ay ung mga movie nila. Nagsisigawan tuloy mga audience.

(continuation) tapos ginaya nila ung isang scene sa movie nila,(forgot the title) ung natapilok si Angelu tapos tinulungan sha ni Bobby, tapos kinarga sha habang magkalapit mga face nila. Baduy na kung baduy, pero di mo maiwasang madala hehe.. :p andun pa rin ang charisma nila sa mga tao.

ay, may nakalimutan pa ako.. may game din pala. ung itetest sila pareho kung natatandaan pa ng mga kapareha nila ung mga fave nila at kung anu-ano pa. (sinusulat sa illustration board na hawak nila). imagine, perfect sila angelu and bobby. silang 2 lang ang naka perfect. tandang tanda pa talaga nila ang kanilang mga fave.

Hey Irma! Oo nga, tama, It Might Be You yung ‘theme song’ ni Bob and Anj (magbigay ba daw ng nickname eh).
Laging Naron Ka ba yung title ng movie nila (yung scene na ginaya nila?)
Sweet sila eh, kaya mabenta pa sa mga tao…kaso nga lang tong Bobby na to may asawa na diba?

Honestly, I dont know the title of the movie hehe. Short pa hair ni Angelu sa movie na un tapos payat pa mejo si Bob (ayan Bob din. Ginaya kita ;p). Anyway, yeah may asawa na si Bob.. Eh may anak na rin naman si Angelu eh hehe.. Si Angelu ata unang nagkaron ng anak kesa sa pag-aasawa ni Bobby.. Im not sure though. In fairness, bagay sila. ;p sana ‘Kapamilya’ na silang dalawa hehe..

Hmmm…I’m not sure who is who. I miss their loveteam though. GMA should show reruns of TGIS in QTV.

crush ko back then si Bobby Andrews and Onemig. I watched this every sabado with my tita and even saw the movie in the cinema house twice kase nakikilig si peachy at si wacks….sana gumawa si Viva Film boxed sets of the episodes. I would definately buy!

i loved this show! i even bought a vcd copy of TGIS the movie…watched all their movies… i just can’t get over the angelu-bobby loveteam until now! i just hope viva will release dvd box set to bring back good memories!

I really liked the show, naalala ko tuloy ung high school years ko. nagka-cutting classes pa ako para masundan ko sila sa kanilang mall tours noon. Si Red Sternberg ang paborito ko sa cast - ang pinaka gwapo sa lahat na male cast. By the way, Francisco Martin Arboleda de Dios ang name niya sa show. Nasaan na kaya si Red ngayon? sana magbalik showbiz ulit si Kiko, miss ko na makita ang magagandang biloy niya sa pisngi.

I really love tgis, i remeber the song growing up & it might be you..sobrang kilig tlga ako, laht ng movies nila pinapanood ko..takot k ba sa dilim,laging naron ka and yung tgis the movie…its so nice to reminisce…i still have a huge crush on bobby andrews!!! my teenage years was great because of that tgis experienced. wow thanks guys! love it!
