Lamb Chops Play Along

This is the song that doesn’t end..Yes it goes on and on, my friend. Some people started singing it not knowing what it was and they’ll continue singing it forever just because.. this is the song that doesn’t end… hahahhaa! I swear this song is so memorable because of this show Lamb Chops Play-Along. Enjoy getting LSS (last song syndrome)!

Ride on the Magic School Bus!

Hey kids! Remember Ms. Frizzle and her cool Magic School Bus? Well for those who can’t remember, this was the coolest show when we were in grade school. It was about a Science professor called Ms. Frizzle, who would take her students, Carlos, Phoebe, Keesha, Dorothy Anne, Ralphie, Arnold, and Wanda, on fieldtrips in order to expain and illustrate her lessons. Luckily, they have got a Magic school bus, which literally takes them to the heart of their lesson. I remember in one episode, Ms. Frizzle’s lesson was about the human heart, so what they did was actually go inside a person’s body and travel to the heart. It was sooo cool back then to actually learn something and at the same time see the body parts in a fun way. I wish they put it back so my niece can watch it too!

Mara Clara: the longest teleserye on Philippine television

Who could’ve ever forgotten the long-playing telenovela that made judy ann santos a household name? Mara Clara was one drama series that made the 90s, THE 90s. It was well watched because it was realistic -because of the time frame of the story, or as we liked to call it, “pacing ng istorya”.

Although the story, was just like any other teleserye we see these days, has a one in a million chance ever likely to happen, it was able to capture the filipinos because of our love for the rags to riches story.

The show gave names to a lot of the artistas we see today, such as Gladys Reyes and her husband (forgot his name though..), and who could forget the ka-loveteam of juday, Wowie. Hahaha. Can you guys remember the cast? There was even movie of this teleserye (shorter version, of course).

Agawan Base

The lunch breaks during elem and Hs seemed very long. There was still a lot of time after eating…so what do we do? We play! One of the games we usually play during lunch was agawan base. Yes the game where we used trees! Still remember how to play the games? Heres how.

Participants are divided into two teams with equal number of team members. The object of the game is for one team to try & capture the base of the other by reaching the other’s home base first & tagging a pre-decided item (usually a tree trunk!)  symbolizing the opposite team - without getting tagged by the defending members of the opposite team. A safety line is drawn between the two teams. A member of an opposing team who crosses the safety line into the territory of the other team can be chased & tagged by the team that owns that base. If the attacker gets tagged before he/she manages to get back to his/her safety zone or home base, he/she becomes a prisoner  of the opposite team. He/she can be rescued by his/her teammates if one of his/her teammates manage to get close to the base & tag the prisoner without getting tagged himself/herself by the guard or one of the defenders in the opposing team. The game ends when a member of an opposing team manages to tag the symbol of the other team or when all the members of one team are captured by the other leaving their homebase free for the opposite team to attack & capture.

Smells Like Teen Spirit: Thank God It’s Sabado!

Meet Migs, Joaqs, JM, Kiko, Peachy, Cris, Michelle, and Raine. They used to be my Saturday barkada during my teenage years. Thank God It’s Sabado (TGIS) is a defunct teen-oriented TV show by GMA Network. It had three versions.

The original cast with Angelu de Leon, Raven Villanueva, Michael Flores, Bobby Andrews, Red Sternberg, Onemig Bondoc, Rica Peralejo, and Ciara Sotto.

tgis.jpg

The show began in 1996 and lasted until (this is an estimate) 1999 . It was about a group of high school friends trying to get past through hormones, sibling rivalry, school, and first love. They all survive high school by being there for each other.

The interesting part for a fourth grader (which I was back then), were the brewing love stories in between. I believed in Peachy and Joaqs! I believed in their love team so much that I would refuse to leave the house during Saturdays just to watch their interviews with Lyn Ching in the magazine show, Etching until TGIS goes on the air. Peachy and Joaqs even had this *ick* really cheesy loveydovey names for each other. Guess what they were….PANCAKES AND…OMG! I don’t remember the other pet name. Help me! This will not make me sleep.

Winning's tiring!

Hey guys and gals! It’s official! We have a winner for our December poll. So it’s the pink ranger who wins. 13 our of our 20 respondents have decided: Kimberly was the ultimate childhood hero during our time. Kudos to Amy Jo Johnson for inspiring so many young girls (our age) to excel.

Nayon Pilipino

Nang buhay pa ang Nayong Pilipino

Nayon Pilipino was the number one field trip choice of almost every Elementary school in the Greater Metro Manila area. Most of the Philippine’s landmarks can be seen in this big park; from Luzon’s volcanoes to Visayas’ chocolate hills, and Mindanao’s mosques, every Philippine landmark was there to see and feel. Nayon Pilipino could be considered as a national heritage in itself but due to unknown reasons the once popular and frequently visited park was closed. We hope one day the park will open again so that our future kids could experience the different Philippine landmarks we once experinced.
