My B-boys and Spice Girls

Back when some of us were in gradeschool, the two most famous girl and boy bands were the SPICE GIRLS & BACKSTREET BOYS. They were sooo famous that many of us (and come on you’ve got to admit you’re one of them, haha!) would try to copy their steps in their music videos or better yet make our own. (Talk about fan! Hahaha!) Some of us were so amazed by the different personalities they each had that we actually associated ourselves with them. The five Spice girls were Sporty Spice, Baby Spice, Scary Spice, Posh Spice, and Ginger Spice. So, for example, in the barkada there would be one Sporty Spice simply because she was very athletic and normally dresses like Melanie. Another example is Baby Spice because she is the sweet and lovable girl in the barkada. And so, everyone gets to play a role in the Spice Girls. I’m not too sure though if this applies to the boys (I mean of course with the Backstreet Boys band), but what I do know is that even the guys memorize the Backstreet Boys songs and some dance steps from the music video. (Ayan ang isa pang fan!)

Backstreet Boys

I remember my friends and I would always hang out inside the classroom during breaks and free periods; we would always play the cd of the Spice Girls and dance and sing to it. Then, we would choreograph our own dance steps and then put in the steps we liked from the music video. Then, during class get-togethers, mother-daughter, and father-daughter get-togethers, we would perform in front of everyone. Those were the good old days when we were wild and free. Drama.

Confession: I used to listen to their single, “I’ll Never Break Your Heart” endlessly. They were really dreamy back then.

I liked the Spice Girls a lot back in the day. Hehehe I liked Baby Spice. I even watched their movie – I have it on video coz my lola sent it to me.😀 As for the Backstreet Boys, I liked their songs, but I never liked them, especially Nick Carter. It’s fun looking back and singing their songs again!

Here’s a toast to hardcore pop fans! Some friends actually *danced* in the convenience store when they heard “STOP” on the radio.

if only my old friend could read this..(she’s living and working in UK right now), our fave then was the spice girls and she even aspired to go to London because of them. Fortunately, she realized her dream and like Frances, we two watched their first and last movie. my fave was baby spice and hers was ginger spice. O Nette, kung nababasa mo to react ka naman!!!

RSS Return of the Nineties by Kidswereus

  • Kidswereus Recalls (and ambitiously recommends) March 4, 2008
It’s been a year since we’ve begun this blog. Wahoo! It’s time to bring back the love to the next batch of SEO experts, bloggers, and internet marketers! This year’s theme is more social-oriented. I guess this idea came from our professor who thinks that the Internet is more than an all-in-one medium that integrates […]

  • Pop Swatch! November 1, 2007
They were funky, overly large, and well cute.  The Pop Swatch was born in the 80’s but it got to Manila during the nineties. My cousin was obsessed with collecting all the straps that would match. We would always pass by Gift Gate in the Greenhills Shopping Arcade so that we would see the new […]

  • Oh Tokyo! October 29, 2007
The show’s goal was simple: to give the Pinoys an overview of the Japanese culture. We love it for the host’s flawless translation of Japanese to Filipino. It also helps that she speaks in a sing-song voice while she asks the Tokyo-dwellers about their day-to-day living. Sad to say, this show stopped airing in RJ […]

  • For kicks: Guess this 90s Telenovela October 27, 2007
The year was 1998 and we, as a nation, have just recovered from the Thalia telenovela avalanche. We needed a change of pace so here’s a soap whose heroine is a child. Her height is as tiny as her voice! I love her show-gum smile and lengthy lashes. The story was interesting in the beginning: […]
