Speaking of Japanese Superheroes

Aside from Masked Rider Black, our Filipino childhood was marked by watching Shaider. The show aired on IBC 13 during Fridays at 5:30pm.

Alexis, played by Japanese actor Sawamura Dai, is an archeologist student who discovered a disturbance Nazca Plain. He then becomes invited and trained by the Galactic Union Police to become the next Earth Space Sheriff. He is  given the name Shaider, after the warrior who destroyed Fuuma Le-Ar in the past.  He was accompanied by his best friend Annie in his exploits with Fuuma Le-Ar.

Voice cast includes Vincent Gutierrez as Shaider, Grace Cornel as Annie, and Maynard Llames as Fuuma Le-ar in the Philippine dubbed version.

Special thanks to the folks at Wikipedia for the filmography of Shaider.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaider

I think they’re having reruns of Shaider in Hero TV these days. Then again, who among in our age brackets would have the time to watch these TV shows…? How sad.. The memory is worth reminiscing though. =P

John Atas Returns. I think I’ve seen the reruns. It was more exciting when we were younger. I think they have some spoilers of the Shaider episodes in Wikipedia…just in case you want to read them.

Of course, alexis was my crush ano.i even asked my relative in Japan to give me a life-size poster of him. kaya lang alexis (sawamura dai) died na di ba? regarding an-ni, she’s a porn star nowadays. I remember di napalabas yung last episode ng shaider, or ako lang ang di nakapanood. well, i was in 5th grade in elementary that tym.

I also like bioman especially the loveteam of green two and yellow four, lalo na yung bio arrow niya. kaso may pagka tiboli ata si yellow four, hehehe. i recall their superpowers which i wish i had…bio xray, bio ear, bio arrow, bio lazer, biowatch..hehehe and also their jologs na instructor..peebo.

Maskman is also my favorite especially the love story of Michael Joe (red mask) at iyong syota niya na nalibing sa yelo..( o tanda ninyo yon!!)

skl (share ko lang) did you know that bioman and maskman are actually just two of several batches of super sentai? it includes the american spinoff power rangers. i think the latest batches are called dekarangers (or space police) and magirangers (magic rangers). there are more colors now though… 😉

RSS Return of the Nineties by Kidswereus

  • Kidswereus Recalls (and ambitiously recommends) March 4, 2008
It’s been a year since we’ve begun this blog. Wahoo! It’s time to bring back the love to the next batch of SEO experts, bloggers, and internet marketers! This year’s theme is more social-oriented. I guess this idea came from our professor who thinks that the Internet is more than an all-in-one medium that integrates […]
  • Pop Swatch! November 1, 2007
They were funky, overly large, and well cute.  The Pop Swatch was born in the 80’s but it got to Manila during the nineties. My cousin was obsessed with collecting all the straps that would match. We would always pass by Gift Gate in the Greenhills Shopping Arcade so that we would see the new […]
  • Oh Tokyo! October 29, 2007
The show’s goal was simple: to give the Pinoys an overview of the Japanese culture. We love it for the host’s flawless translation of Japanese to Filipino. It also helps that she speaks in a sing-song voice while she asks the Tokyo-dwellers about their day-to-day living. Sad to say, this show stopped airing in RJ […]

Tia and Tamara Mowry (Sister, Sister) 6. Macaulay Culkin (Home Alone) 7. Daniella Fischer (Boy Meets World) 8. Larissa Oleynik (Alex Mack) 9. Rachel Leigh Cook […]
  • For kicks: Guess this 90s Telenovela October 27, 2007
The year was 1998 and we, as a nation, have just recovered from the Thalia telenovela avalanche. We needed a change of pace so here’s a soap whose heroine is a child. Her height is as tiny as her voice! I love her show-gum smile and lengthy lashes. The story was interesting in the beginning: […]
