Bad pun, bad pun. I meant BOP the magazine and not the song popularized by Hanson. The picture I included here was my first and last issue of BOP, the teenage magazine in the nineties.

BOP cover1

I used to go gaga over the free pinups of the teen stars. Of course back then in the mid-nineties when I was in the sixth or seventh grade the movies Clueless, Now and Then, Camp Nowhere, and Mighty Ducks were in VOGUE! Plus the TV shows Sabrina, Sweet Valley High, Moesha, and the Fresh Prince of Belair was deemed cool by the Cool Crowd. Wanting to be ‘in’ and not left behind, I rode the wave of watching foreign shows.

As a teen, I used to have daydreams that starred Devon Sawa, Andrew Keegan, Luis Mendoza (that kid who can’t stop in Mighty Ducks 2), and Jonathan Jackson. All of them at one point of the daydream, had to profess their undying love for me. And we lived *ulp* happily ever after! Tsk, tsk, cheesiness abounds.

I’m sure all you Kidswereus readers are smart enough to figure out why this magazine’s popularity waned. Won’t you join us in enumerating the why? The funniest and most creative wins!

Yeah. Devon was made famous by that Casper gig he had. The line that made us all melt: “Can I keep you?”

Hahaha. I was just watching Idle Hands yesterday and I was wondering what happened to Devon Sawa becs I haven’t heard of him in a long time. And I was snickering at myself becs I remembered how infatuated I was with him that I’d keep asking mom to buy me the Bop magazine everytime we pay for the groceries Those magazines were always there by the cashier with all the candies. And I hated it when I see J.T.T. becs I just didn’t get why he had to share the limelight with Devon- he’s so not cute. haha.

Haha! I’m not a JTT fan myself. JTT looked so young and I didn’t like his voice!

Devon Sawa was the stuff of dreams…I kept on watching The Sandlot because of him. I saw him last in Final Destination…he wasn’t as cute. 😦

It’s been a year since we’ve begun this blog. Wahoo! It’s time to bring back the love to the next batch of SEO experts, bloggers, and internet marketers! This year’s theme is more social-oriented. I guess this idea came from our professor who thinks that the Internet is more than an all-in-one medium that integrates […]
  • Pop Swatch! November 1, 2007
They were funky, overly large, and well cute.  The Pop Swatch was born in the 80’s but it got to Manila during the nineties. My cousin was obsessed with collecting all the straps that would match. We would always pass by Gift Gate in the Greenhills Shopping Arcade so that we would see the new […]
  • Oh Tokyo! October 29, 2007
The show’s goal was simple: to give the Pinoys an overview of the Japanese culture. We love it for the host’s flawless translation of Japanese to Filipino. It also helps that she speaks in a sing-song voice while she asks the Tokyo-dwellers about their day-to-day living. Sad to say, this show stopped airing in RJ […]

  • For kicks: Guess this 90s Telenovela October 27, 2007
The year was 1998 and we, as a nation, have just recovered from the Thalia telenovela avalanche. We needed a change of pace so here’s a soap whose heroine is a child. Her height is as tiny as her voice! I love her show-gum smile and lengthy lashes. The story was interesting in the beginning: […]
