Little Miss Philippines

This clip’s not from the nineties, forgive me! But I couldn’t resist posting it here because it showcases Aiza Seguerra during her cutesy-patootsie days before she was able to get a stint at the noontime show, Eat Bulaga. She was able to begin her career in showbusiness by joining in the defunct kiddie pageant called ‘Little Miss Philippines’.

Here’s a confession: I had a silly dream of actually joining in Little Miss Philippines! I went up to my grandmother and asked her if she could accompany me to the audition. Of course she refused…but only because she didn’t know how to get to TAPE Productions!

Haha! Talaga, u dreamt of joining that kiddie pagaent? My sister’s Godchild joined LMP and she ended up as second placer. She also got a minor award, I forgot nga lang kung anong award un. Basta ung pinaka energetic ung binibigyan ng award na un, and she was the one chosen for that award. Sana you joined na lang hehe.. ;D

Ikaw, di mo ba trip sumali? Naalala ko pa after ng Little Miss Philippines nagsulputan ang mga kiddie pageants…tulad ng Princess Asia (of Sang Linggo Na Po Sila).

  • 3. Irma  |  February 19, 2007 at 10:53 am

Hehe. Ung Salo-Salo Together kasabayan din ba un, or after na nung Sang Linggo nAPO sila?.. I forgot na. 😀

  • 4. kidswereus  |  February 19, 2007 at 4:45 pm

Hmmm. Palagay ko yung Salo Salo Together kasabay nung Sang Linggo Napo Sila. Diba may time na nawala yung Eat Bulaga sa 7 and sa 2? Yun ang aking naaalala ha. 😀

  • 5. Jose  |  February 20, 2007 at 7:56 pm

Ang naaalala ko lang Princess Asia eh. Kasi 1991 ako pinanganak.

  • 6. Caruray  |  February 20, 2007 at 9:09 pm

Ako, nung bata pa ako I was already being trained for this show. Yun nga lang di natuloy, I didn’t get to join na…I don’t know nga why eh. Matanong nga sa mommy ko.

  • 7. kidswereus  |  February 20, 2007 at 10:28 pm

Jose, we appreciate your attempt to relate with us!

Huwaw naman Caruray…buti ka pa. Ako frustrated! Hehe. Sayang…if ever you got to join in LMP, what would be your talent?

I’m thinking siguro I’d sing and dance…yung tipong may mga back-up dancers ako na pinsan ko or kapitbahay namin (diba ganun yun dati…iniinterview nila Vic and Joey yung mga back up dancers and escorts?!). I’d dance to…the lambada! Irms, Caruray, whatcha think?

  • 8. rhey  |  February 21, 2007 at 4:38 am

    hahah… been there… been that…
when i asked my mom about joining the pageant, my cousins told me that they dont accept ugly kidss and that vic and joey will get mad if i do show up…

talk about shattering my self esteem…

    oh well…

  • 9. Irma  |  February 21, 2007 at 9:31 am

Jose, nung 1991, 7 years old na ako hehe. Grabe ang tanda ko na pala! X-( Caruray, sayang naman un. Excited ka na ba sana nun? Hehe. “Kidswereus”, oo nga, ung mga escort iniinterview nila Vic and Joey. Haha!!!! Syempre cute din un.. ;D

  • 10. Irma  |  February 21, 2007 at 9:34 am

  • 11. Justine  |  February 21, 2007 at 7:41 pm

Okay I MUST confess… My tita was into advertising and media stuff so like she had connections with people in this show… I actually begged her to get me into the show when I was like, 5 or 6! hahaha! xD

  • 12. Nico  |  February 21, 2007 at 10:06 pm

i can still remember those days! whahaha! ako nga niyaya ako ng ate ko maging escort niya eh.. pero batang -bata pa ako nun.. gusto pa nila ako sumali sa talent portion… whahaha!

  • 13. Caruray  |  February 22, 2007 at 12:00 pm

Hahaha! Ako, talent ko singing and dancing kasi sobrang hilig kong kumanta at sumayaw parang si Aiza. Dati nga pinapanood ko yung show niya with Connie Reyes tapos ginagaya ko yung mga ginagawa niya. Hahahah! Talk about fan! Kidswereus, ganyan din siguro gagawin kong talent, yung parang may mga back up dancers pa then they’ll carry me. Wow, sosyal! hahah!

  • 14. Caruray  |  February 22, 2007 at 12:16 pm

Justine, what happened? why didn’t you get to join anymore?

  • 15. kidswereus  |  February 22, 2007 at 8:18 pm

To Rhey– You should watch Little Miss Sunshine! Very enlightening. Basta kiddie pageants dapat kebs lang, walang pakialaman. You could get away with anything naman kahit bata ka.

  • 16. Justine  |  February 23, 2007 at 8:34 pm

I don’t know!! Haha.. Sayang nga eh.. Haha.. I would’ve sang there since I’ve always loved singing haha

  • 17. Tin  |  February 24, 2007 at 11:48 pm

Uhm. Can I just say, na after ng portion na yan ay bababa na ko sa sala with my Lola and I’ll even literally look for upbeat music sa radio so I can dance. Hahaha. Kung wala akong mahanap eh magsosolo nalang ako dahil marame akong minus one! HAHAHA. I was such a pathetic kid. 😛

  • 18. kidswereus  |  February 25, 2007 at 12:06 am

Tin! Nakakatawa ka (lola, it’s not pathetic…you were er…imaginative! :D).

Well I had those moments myself. When I was a kid, I used to watch The Sound of Music twice a day (once in the morning, once in the evening). I’d go in front of the TV and start imitating Liezl!

  • 19. Tin  |  February 25, 2007 at 11:40 pm

HAHAHAHA! HAHAHA. At gusto pa nya follow ko sha! Hahaha. Malala! 😛

  • 20. Crisel  |  February 26, 2007 at 6:10 pm

I love this blog already. All the my cringe-inducing memories keep resurfacing!
I didn’t want to join the Little Miss Philippines because I hated the way they put their hands over their right hip-bone and then stand sideways.. get it? I thought you had to do that to join and I didn’t want to.

  • 21. Crisel  |  February 26, 2007 at 6:15 pm

    Oops… I meant “my.”

  • 22. kidswereus  |  February 26, 2007 at 6:57 pm

Tin–Who’s your favorite Sound of Music character? Mine’s Liezl (and hers is the only name I can spell, nyahaha)

Crisel– OMG…you would’ve balked at my kiddie pictures. That hands-over-the-right-hipbone was my ‘signature’ pose until I was…um…nine years old! Hahaha! It’s funny how you thought joining the pageant’s mandatory!

Princess Asia = very well-remembered. My Princess Asia 97 shirt survives up to this day, as a matter of fact. 😀 Just thought it interesting to share.

It’s been a year since we’ve begun this blog. Wahoo! It’s time to bring back the love to the next batch of SEO experts, bloggers, and internet marketers! This year’s theme is more social-oriented. I guess this idea came from our professor who thinks that the Internet is more than an all-in-one medium that integrates […]
  • Pop Swatch! November 1, 2007
They were funky, overly large, and well cute.  The Pop Swatch was born in the 80’s but it got to Manila during the nineties. My cousin was obsessed with collecting all the straps that would match. We would always pass by Gift Gate in the Greenhills Shopping Arcade so that we would see the new […]
  • Oh Tokyo! October 29, 2007
The show’s goal was simple: to give the Pinoys an overview of the Japanese culture. We love it for the host’s flawless translation of Japanese to Filipino. It also helps that she speaks in a sing-song voice while she asks the Tokyo-dwellers about their day-to-day living. Sad to say, this show stopped airing in RJ […]

Seen these 90’s teen stars lately? 1. Phoebe Cates (Fast Times at Ridgemont High) 2. Jonathan Taylor Thomas (Wild America) 3. Jonathan Jackson (Camp Nowhere) 4. Brandy (Moesha) 5. Tia and Tamara Mowry (Sister, Sister) 6. Macaulay Culkin (Home Alone) 7. Daniella Fischer (Boy Meets World) 8. Larissa Oleynik (Alex Mack) 9. Rachel Leigh Cook […]
  • For kicks: Guess this 90s Telenovela October 27, 2007
The year was 1998 and we, as a nation, have just recovered from the Thalia telenovela avalanche. We needed a change of pace so here’s a soap whose heroine is a child. Her height is as tiny as her voice! I love her show-gum smile and lengthy lashes. The story was interesting in the beginning: […]
